[FCO] File - Gratitude... - 12 days ago, 68 comments
Gifting & recycling - The secret ingredient to your success... ... is GRATITUDE ! ================== "Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all the others." ~ Marcus Tullius Cicero "Kindness is produced by kindness." ~ Cicero Let us be grateful to people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. ~ Marcel Prousthttp://www.dailycelebrations.com/thanks.htmhttp://www.dailycelebrations.com/thanks2.htm ============== So who do you think gets my "stuff"? The person who replies to my offers like this? - "Where is it?" - "I need this. When can I pick it up?" - "I really need this. Can you deliver it?" - "I'll take it." ...or... The person who replies to my offers like this? - "Hi Eric, I'm interested in the what'sit that you offered. If it's still available and I'm selected I can pick it up at your convenience. Thanks so much for your generous offer and your consideration!" ============================================== Remember... getting "gifts" on Full Circles... it's a privilege, not a right! Gratitude... brings joy to the Full Circles experience -- to both giver AND receiver! Gratitude... creates bonds of trust between Full Circles members! ============================================== A bi-weekly reminder from Team FCO Eric Snyder ============================================== PS: Would it kill you to say "Thanks?"...

faq - frequently asked questions
at the curb offers - how to handle them...
==========================================
if you see an item "at the curb", feel free to post an "at the curb: xyz
(location) posting on ofn. provide as much information as you can, including
the street address, to help people decide whether or not to make the drive to
pick something up.
and, if you pick something up as a result of an "at the curb" posting or if
you notice that the item is no longer there, be sure to post a "taken: at the
curb..." message so that people will not unnecessarily make the trip to try to
get something that is no longer there!
legalities of "at the curb" in ottawa...

the following information was provided by janine melbourne of the city of
ottawa to one of our members.

subject: re: garbage "picking"
hi alana
once items have been placed out at the curb for municipal curbside collection,
the items belong to the city. residents are allowed to take items that have
been placed out at the curb as long as these items are loose and no mess is
made. residents are not allowed to take any material that has been placed in
a blue or black box. furthermore, residents are not allowed to rummage
through garbage cans or bags.
hope this helps

loaners - an "ok" idea for ottawa freecycle™
============================================
asking to borrow an item (typically, a piece of equipment that one only
needs once in a while) rather than asking for it outright is acceptable,
as long as both parties -- the borrower and the lender -- agree to the loan
and no money changes hands.
for "loaner" transactions to work, the borrower must accept responsibility for
the item, including returning it to the lender by the time agreed upon and in
the same condition in which it was loaned out. items like rug steam cleaners,
lawn mowers, etc. should always be cleaned before returning.
enforcing loaner agreements like this is entirely the business of the parties
involved, not of freecycle nor its local moderators.
examples of loaner items are: ladders, paper shredders, power washers, snow
blowers, lawn rollers, hedge clippers, lawn mowers, rug shampooers. these are
items that typically sit unused for long stretches of time and could easily be
shared at the neighbourhood level.
please post as follows: wanted: loaner item (location), or if you have an
item you are will to lend out... offer: loaner item (location).

File - Check Your Balance - 4 months ago, 39 comments
hello fellow freecycle(tm) members,
thanks for continuing to participate with ottawa freecycle!
a big thanks to those who generously and consistently seem to find things to
offer on ofn. you are the backbone that makes our ottawa freecycle
community so strong and vital!
as a reminder, we ask that you take a minute every once in a while to check
your own personal "balance" - offers vs wants. it's easy to do! just enter
your yahoo id in the search box near the top of the group messages page and
press "search archive". keep scrolling through the messages and you will
see the posts that you have made. this will give you information about your
"balance" of offers to wants.
and, you might want to keep track of what isn't visible too. if you've
responded directly to a "wanted" posting with an offer, you'll want to remind
yourself of these contributions to your "balance". others may not know what
you've done, but you'll know! or, if you've "received" something that someone
else offered, add that to your "balance" sheet too!
why not create a personal balance sheet for yourself, and make sure that
you stay in balance! here's eric's thoughts on how to make a personal balance
sheet -- http://snurl.com/balance_sheet.
to keep ottawa freecycle a sustainable community for the long term, we must
always tip the scales in favour of giving (offers). and, it keeps our
community (and our moderators) pumped and positive.
cheers!
your ofn moderators
===================
ps: if you actively practice "paying it forward", you will always have a
healthy balance (...and of course, so will ofn!)
never heard of "pay it forward"? check here!
